As a lifelong resident of Lockhart, I’ve always been committed to my community. I am proud to have served on city boards, the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce board, the Lockhart Police Department’s Victim Assistance team, and as team lead for the LCRA's Flood & Emergency Hotline. I understand the way city government works and the bureaucracy that comes with it. This collective experience helped me realize my potential to make a bigger impact on the city I call home. If elected for City Council - District 4, I intend to use my experience in budgeting, consensus-building, team-leading, and communication to best represent my constituents. While I’m an independent thinker, I believe problem-solving should be a collaboration. Lockhart voters are sophisticated and demand integrity and transparency. I promise to bring both to the table.
We should spend tax money the way we spend our household money. I've heard from many neighbors that they are worried about the number of bond elections and the increases in our property taxes. Every expenditure the city spends makes the biggest impact on property taxes for our lower income families and neighbors. My priority is to make sure developers are paying their fair share of the infrastructure costs to keep Lockhart affordable.
When decisions are made but not well communicated, rumors and misinformation fill the gaps. We need to make sure that when issues are identified, input is received and the solutions made are affectively communicated to all districts. When Lockhart entered into a new waste contract, citizens were left with conflicting schedules and billing confusion. If elected, my commitment is to address communication strategy before new contracts roll out.
The city of Lockhart cannot function without our dedicated city workers. My priorities include ensuring each department has the support they need to get their jobs done. I’ve heard frustration from city staff that they lack the budget to make improvements or do their jobs the way they’d like to. This doesn’t have to mean budget increases. It means listening to our city workers and volunteers, looking line by line in the existing budget, and working together to use existing budgets more efficiently.
